Join us at The Newberry Museum for a presentation on Dr. Spencer Glasgow Welch, Surgeon for the South Carolina 13th Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, presented by Mr. John Favors.

Dr. Welch, a native of Newberry, enlisted as a Private in Company D, 13th South Carolina Volunteers Infantry Regiment at the Newberry Court House on August 23, 1861. After being examined and certified as a qualified medical professional, he was promoted to Assistant Surgeon, Field and Staff, of the regiment.
