Black History Month - Presentation Feb. 15th

Join us at The Newberry Museum on Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 pm for a presentation by Dr. Joe McDonald on his book: “With All Deliberate Speed” - School Desegregation in Newberry, A Story of Protest and Resistance. Dr. Joe McDonald is a Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Newberry College. He has done extensive research and interviews to help tell the local events that lead to the boycott at Gallman High the fall of 1969. As quoted in his book, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” - Dr. King

Dr. McDonald is the first of presenters for Black History Month to coincide with our latest exhibit that highlights African-American Newberrians in our county’s history. The new exhibit is open and will last until February 28, 2025. Also, be sure to pick up our self-guided tour brochure “A Closer Look: Black Newberrians in Our History,” which features African-American history within our permanent exhibits.
