About the Event

In the US, the War Production Board prohibited the manufacture of certain styles of clothing and urged people to "repair and re-wear" old clothes, diverting resources from the garment industry to the war effort.  The government’s actions affected what people wore -- including wedding gowns. See dresses made from parachutes and mosquito netting. Learn about "cardboard wedding cakes."
